Given that a computer is a machine, it makes sense that multiple software or hardware issues are found in it every now and then for users to deal with. However, when you’re on the verge of troubleshooting, the number one solution that may come to mind for resolving just about any problem would be restarting the gadget. It’s that simple and easy and if you’re lucky, it fixes all glitches that may hamper the operations of your device.

So, let’s see how you can restart your computer using various shortcuts as it can come in handy for several reasons.

Methods to restart the computer via keyboard

1- Go to start:

Number one on our list is the typical method for restarting the computer i.e. go to the start by pressing the Windows icon on your keyboard. Use the arrow keys to open the options from the shutdown button and choose “Restart.”

2-  Power User menu:

Thumb the “Windows + X” keys together to access the Power User menu. Scroll down to the “Shut down or sign-out” option and use the right-arrow key to select “Restart.”

3- Use the command prompt:

Press Windows key + R to open the dialog box and type Cmd. Tap on enter key to open

the command prompt. You can also type Cmd on the search bar via the start to access this feature. Next, choose “Run as administrator” and type “shutdown -r” command in the box. On the pop-up window, tap on “Close.”  Your computer will take one minute to process this restart command. In case you change your mind, then within that one minute, run the command “shutdown /a” to stop the process.

4- Use Alt + F4 shortcut

The Alt + F4 shortcut opens the shutdown pop-up window quickly. You may select the “Restart” option from the menu and tap on “OK” to proceed.

5- Create your own custom shortcut:

Windows computers allow you to create your own custom shortcuts on the desktop. Go to the desktop and right-click to open the general menu. Scroll down to “New” and select “Shortcut.” A window will open up. Enter the “Shutdown -r -t 00” command and click on “Next.” Type in the name. For instance, you may write “Restart” and tap on “Finish” to complete the procedure. A shortcut named restart will appear on your desktop that would allow you to reboot the system immediately without any extra steps.

You can create more shortcuts using the same method to access other features and utilities quickly with ease.

Final Thoughts:

Restarting your computer isn’t rocket science because the Windows operating system allows users to implement multiple keyboard shortcuts that help them either shut down or restart their computers. So, in case your usual method doesn’t work, you can always rely on other restart options to get the job done.
