Pair the Sony headphones with your MacBook:

  • Press the power button on the headset to turn it on. You must know that if there’s no other pairing information stored already, your devices will pair automatically. However, if your MacBook is the second or third device you want to pair with the headphones, you may press the power button on the WH-1000XM4 for seven seconds.
  • After pressing the button, you’ll hear a voice command and two flashes of blue light indicating that the headset has entered pairing mode.
  • Open your notebook’s system preferences and click on “Bluetooth” to open settings.
  • Then, you may select “WH-1000XM4” to pair. Make sure that you do not select any variation of this number. You have to exactly choose “WH-1000XM4” or else the pairing won’t happen. If after waiting for at least a minute, the mentioned figure doesn’t appear, you’ll have to start the process from the beginning.
  • If you’re asked for a passcode to pair, enter “0000” and proceed. Once paired, you’ll hear a voice command confirming the connection.
  • After the connection is established, you may click on the speakers and choose “WH-1000XM4” to listen to the audio in the headphones.

Things to Note:

  • The headset can be paired with eight devices but will only play music from one device at a time.
  • Once the headset gets paired with your MacBook, it’ll connect automatically next time, so you won’t need to repeat the process.
  • If you don’t want it to connect automatically next time, you may want to turn off the headset or deactivate the Bluetooth on your MacBook.
  • If your devices do not pair together within five minutes, you’ll have to start the process from the beginning.
  • If you connect the headphones with a 9th device, the 1st device’s information will be overwritten. So, it won’t connect anymore, and you’ll need to pair it again.
  • If the pairing information gets deleted from the MacBook’s or headphones’ Bluetooth, you may encounter problems in pairing the devices. In this case, start the pairing process from the beginning.
  • In case your MacBook and Sony headphones are paired but still don’t connect, you may press the power button for two seconds. And follow the same steps until you open the Bluetooth settings. Then you may select the WH-1000MX4 from the screen while thumbing the Control key. From the pop-up menu, click on “Connect” to establish the connection, making the headphones operational.
