Today, people use online modes of communication more. The majority of the world rely on the internet for work. From writing emails to typing important documents, having every spelling and sentence structure right the first time can be difficult. Now everyone uses a spell and grammar-checking tools before sending it forward. Some devices have built-in spelling checkers, while in others, you will have to use an outside source. You can use the built-in spelling and grammar-checking tool on your Mac for free.

How to turn on the auto-correction feature?

Like every other spell-checking tool, your mac device will underline the incorrect spelling in red, showing the suggested corrections once you click on it. You can also use the auto-correct so that it will get easier for you.

To correct the spelling automatically, follow the instructions given below;

Select the Apple menu on your Mac device

  1. Tap on system settings, then click on the keyboard in the sidebar, or you can scroll down to see the option
  2. On the right side, go to text input and tap “edit.”
  3. Tap on “correct spelling automatically” and turn it on, then click done.

Note: if you want your first word or pronoun to be capitalized automatically, you can turn on “capitalize words automatically.”

Key points to remember:

  1. In any app, type your content. The misspelled words will be detected.
  2. You can select from the suggestions, and if only one suggestion is provided, you can keep writing so the word will be auto-corrected.
  3. If you want to ignore the suggestions: press ESC and continue writing.
  4. If you want to undo the auto-corrected word, the auto corrected word is underlined in blue you can tap on it, and it will show you the word you typed in suggestions. Select that.
  5. To turn off the auto-correction for a specific app, open the app, select edit, then spelling and grammar, and then turn off correct spelling automatically.
  6. By pressing F5 also, you can display a list of suggested words.

Note: Spelling check is not available in every region. So, you can check if there’s any availability of mac features in your area.

How to add and change the languages that you want to be auto corrected:

By default, the spellings are checked automatically, but you can also add the languages if it is not automatically corrected.

  1.  Select the Apple menu on your Mac and tap on System Settings. Click on the keyboard.
  2. On the right, go to text input and click edit
  3. Do these two steps:
  4. Check the spelling for one language; tap the spelling pop-up menu and choose the language.
  5. Check to spell for multiple languages; tap on the spelling pop-up menu, select set-up, choose each language to check automatically, and then tap Done.
