Assembling your computer yourself will save you money, but it will also require technical expertise to repair computer in case of failure. The power supply installation is of the utmost importance in the assembly of a computer because a power failure can cause significant and expensive losses. Here are some steps you can take to install a computer power supply correctly.
Choosing the Right Power Supply
The PSU to be used is as important as the steps to follow. Therefore, you must carefully choose the power supply, power connectors, and tools (including the screwdriver) that will help you mount the computer. This is because the power supply is the component that supplies DC voltage power to the motherboard and other peripherals. We must therefore choose this component, taking into account the characteristics of the motherboard and other peripherals. The motherboard manual or visit the manufacturer’s website to find out the information you need to prepare yourself.
Remember to check the physical space in the computer case or box to accommodate the power supply. It would be a shame to buy a power supply that will not fit in the computer case. Next, make sure that the voltage available in your area is ideal, as power supplies are not universal. After purchasing your power supply, have a Phillips screwdriver and another screwdriver suitable for the screws on the power supply. Although it is not mandatory, you can also equip yourself with new connectors. Binder-connector offers all types of them.
Preparing to Install the Power Supply Unit
First and foremost, it is important to ground yourself to prevent a static charge from damaging your equipment. The safest way and which gives you a minimum of mobility is the earthing bracelet. Using a screwdriver, open the computer case and set it on a flat surface with the open side up. If your box has a voltage selector, make sure it matches the power supply in your area. This step is unnecessary if the PSU does not have a voltage selector since PSUs do not operate under a wide voltage range.
After the usual checks, install the power supply unit. The power supply location is quite distinct and is most often found in the computer case corner. Remove the box, taking care to place the rear face against the inside of the box’s back, which the ventilator’s air exhaust openings can recognize. If this is a replacement, take the old standard or gaming psu apart before installing the new one.
Connect the New Power Supply
Several cables allow the connection between the power supply and the motherboard. They must be connected by size correspondence. Also, pay attention to the number of pins. If you do not manage to insert the connector, do not use force to damage the motherboard. Then connect the other peripherals of the computer with thin cables. Close the computer case and turn on the computer. The fan should come on when you press the Power On button. Finally, check that everything is working correctly. If not, repeat the process and check the connections.
