Alienware Desktop Gaming PC Overheating and Freezing Problem

Alienware is one of the popular brands in the gaming PCs industry. If you are a gamer, professional video editor or looking for high spec PCs, you might have heard about Alienware from friends or the internet. Dell owns the Alienware brand and its specialised in manufacturing high spec desktop computers and laptops. Recently a customer from South London visited our website chat and explained how he is facing a problem with his Alienware Desktop PC. it’s getting shut off automatically while playing games or working on video editing software. We immediately requested the customer to turn off the PC and please don’t use it until it has been looked after by a Gaming PC expert. Alienware desktop pc was having an overheating problem which is the mother of all the issues.

Geeks Callout’s Alienware Gaming Laptop Repair Specialist Solved the Issue

We quickly arranged a free collection from South London and had the PC delivered to our lab in Epsom. The customer also requested a full internal component check to ensure there were no other underlying issues apart from overheating.

Once our expert technician opened the system, we found a significant amount of dust buildup inside. The fans were clogged, and the Alienware liquid cooling system pipes were getting excessively hot. The first step was to thoroughly clean the internal components to improve airflow.

Next, we checked the processor’s thermal paste. Since the system had been struggling with heat dissipation, we suspected that the thermal compound might have dried—and we were right, which was the primary reason why the Dell gaming PC was overheating. Our expert carefully reapplied high-quality thermal paste to restore optimal heat transfer.

After reassembling the system, we powered it on. While booting into Windows 10, the PC took slightly longer than expected, indicating a potential performance issue. To ensure everything was running smoothly, we ran a series of diagnostic tests to analyse system behavior, check temperatures, inspect the GPU, test SSD health, and assess overall performance.

After running the overheating test, the results were underwhelming. Further diagnostics on the hard drive and SSD revealed that the SSD health was only at 40%, explaining the slow boot times on the Alienware PC.

Before testing the GeForce RTX 2080 graphics card, our expert cleaned the fan and applied a new thermal compound—and that made all the difference! The benchmark test results were excellent, confirming a significant improvement.

With the diagnostics complete, it was time to update the customer on our findings and recommend the necessary replacements to restore the PC’s performance and smooth operation.

Our gaming expert called the customer and explained that New H60 corsair water cooling system is required since the old one is not working properly. Secondly, the NVME express 250GB SSD is also not in a good health which needs to be replaced. We did get a green signal from the customer to replace whatever is required to run the PC properly. Our Alienware gaming expert technician managed to replaced the cooling system and replaced the normal NVME express chip with a high-performance SSD Samsung Pro NVME express chip which made the computer run faster than before.

The entire repair and parts replacement process took around two days. On the third day, our expert performed a final round of checks, and this time, the cooling system, NVMe SSD, and graphics card delivered outstanding performance.

That same day, we arranged free delivery, returning the PC to the customer. They were absolutely thrilled with the upgraded performance—no more random restarts, freezing, or FPS drops!
